The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has submitted a report to the president concerning information commissioner Masuda Bhatti.
On Friday, BSS reported that the supreme Court’s website announced the report’s submission on Thursday, stating, “The SJC has sent a report to the president on an information commissioner.”
Supreme Court Appellate Division Registrar Muhammad Hasanuzzaman confirmed, “The Supreme Judicial Council’s report on information commissioner Masuda Bhatti was sent to the president earlier this week.”
Masuda Bhatti was appointed as information commissioner on August 24, 2023, during the tenure of the Awami League government.
In 2018, Masuda was embroiled in controversy alongside Barrister Mainul Hosein, a former advisor to the caretaker government, following comments Hosein made during a television program in which Masuda also participated. The incident led to Hosein’s imprisonment, sparking widespread criticism and raising allegations that Bhatti enjoyed preferential treatment under the Awami League government.
Mainul Hosein’s imprisonment was widely condemned as government overreach, but public dissent was subdued due to the administration’s repressive measures and strict stance at the time.
