Four people were killed and ten others injured when an ambulance’s gas cylinder exploded after a bus collision in front of Police Town in Savar early Wednesday.
The tragic incident occurred on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway around 2:30 am.
According to local sources, the collision happened between the ambulance and a bus on the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka-Aricha Highway. The explosion of the ambulance’s gas cylinder caused a fire in the bus, which then spread to another bus and a truck.
Four people died in the blaze on the spot. Fire service personnel later arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies, which were handed over to the Savar Highway Police Station.
Meherul, the warehouse manager of the Savar fire service, told the media that they received reports of a fire involving an ambulance and a running bus at around 2:00 am in the Police Town area on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway. Two units from the local fire service responded and extinguished the flames.
Savar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saugatul Alam said that the accident resulted in two buses, one truck, and one ambulance being burned into flames. The bodies have been kept at the police station, and after the legal procedures, they will be handed over to the families.
