A Quran memorisation contest, reportedly being organized for the first time across the country, will begin this month and continue till May with state backing.
A notification issued by the Islamic Foundation has confirmed the "Hifzul Quran" contest. All eight divisions of the country will be divided into 15 zones for the contest.
The contest will be held in three categories: a) for those aged below 18 years, b) for those aged below 15 years, and c) for those aged below 12 years. Each educational institution can send up to five candidates for each category.
The upazila level contest will be held in January, district level contest in February, divisional level contest in April and final contest in May.
The winner would get Tk2 lakh prize money, first runner-up Tk1.5 lakh, and the second runner-up Tk1 lakh. Prizes would also be distributed at the upazila and district levels.
