Mahin Sarkar on Monday evening filed a criminal case against 391 Awami League and Chhatra League leaders with Shahbag police station.
The case has been filed for their alleged connection with the indiscriminate attacks on agitating students at Dhaka University (DU) campus on July 15 last.
Mahin Sarkar is a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement also a Dhaka University student residing at Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall of Dhaka University.
The plaintiff made another 800-1000 unidentified persons defendants in the case filed by the coordinator, who also came under attack on that day.
Key accused of the case are; AL president Sheikh Hasina, AL general secretary Obaidul Quader, former education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel, former information and broadcasting minister Mohammad A. Arafat, Jubo league president Mainul Hossain khan Nikhil, online activist Nijhoom Majumder, BCL president Saddam Hussein, general secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan, DU BCL president Mazharul Kabir Shayon and general secretary Tanbir Hasan Shaikat.
Hasina and Quader for their instigating speeches and orders to defend student at any cost while rest of the defendants were made accused as they directly take part in the attack, the compliant reads.
According to the compliant paper, “It’s been late as he had to collect attackers’ identity and evidences while ensuring treatment for the injured individuals.”
After lodging the case the plaintiff addressed media in-front of the police station. He said, “The case has been filed to bring the attackers to book. As student representatives, it’s our responsibility to go for legal procedure against the persons who carried out the heinous attacks.”
Terming July 15 as a black day for Dhaka University, Mahin said, “BCL and other affiliated bodies of Awami League carried out an open attack on thousands of students wielding local weapons, leaving a number of male and female students seriously injured.”
“BCL leaders and supporters threatened me and attempted to kill me. I was injured too,” Mahin mentioned in the complaint.
Case will be filed over every attacks carried out by BCL activists across the country, said another coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud in the media conference.
Masud demanded prohibiting Chhatra league immediately as a terrorist organization and bring all the terrorists of Chhatra League to book for their crimes, saying, “None of them will further get the opportunity to carry out terrorist activities on the soil of the country.”
He urged the students to file cases against the culprits involved in countrywide attacks on students, adding, “Awami League has lost all the grounds of doing politics in the country. They do not have any right to breathe in free air. They only deserve to breathe in the air of prison.”
Confirming the matter, Masud Alam, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Ramna Zone said, “Names of more than 300 hundred persons were given in the case filed for the attacks on students on July 15 at DU campus.”
We will take action after necessary investigation, he added.
Moreover, earlier this month, Dhaka University formed a probe body to investigate incidents of violence in campus from 15 July to 5 August during the quota reform movement and the mass student uprising.
