Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid, senior secretary of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, has been appointed as the cabinet secretary of the interim government.
He was promoted to senior secretary on August 18 following the unceremonious topple of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government through a student-led mass uprising.
The appointment has been made on a contractual basis for two years, said a circular of the Ministry of Public Administration, on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Section 49 of the Government Service Act, Abdur Rashid has been appointed as cabinet secretary on a contractual basis for two years, effective from October 14 or from the date of his joining, on the condition of cancelling affiliation with other professions, businesses, or employment in any government, semi-government, or private organisations and associations, read the circular.
Other terms and conditions of the appointment will be determined based on the contract letter, added the circular.
Besides, the tenure of the contractual appointment of incumbent Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain will expire on October 13.
After taking charge of the state, the interim government cancelled contractual appointment of all secretaries except Mahbub Hossain.
