Social welfare and women affairs adviser Sharmeen S Murshid on Thursday said the interim government has decided to probe allegations raised against officials of taking bribes for ensuring the appointment of deputy commissioners (DC).
The government is concerned over the claims of corruption committed by Public Administration Senior Secretary Md Mokhlesur Rahman and others, Sharmeen told reporters at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
To this end, a probe committee has been formed comprising the ICT adviser, home affairs adviser and law adviser, she said.
Shortly before the announcement of investigation, Senior Secretary Md Mokhlesur Rahman had rejected the allegations and relevant evidence as "baseless."
Earlier, a Bangla daily published two reports, backed by evidence, on the alleged corruption activities.
The government probe committee will also investigate whether the evidence cited by the newspaper were developed through artificial intelligence (AI) technology, Adviser Sharmeen informed reporters.
