A Dhaka court has granted bail to former acting editor of the daily Amar Desh Mahmudur Rahman, who was convicted in the case involving the attempted abduction and murder of Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain approved Mahmudur's bail on Thursday.
Mahmudur Rahman surrendered before the court of Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque on Sunday last. Later, the court sent him to jail.
On August 17, 2023, Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor delivered the verdict in this case. In the ruling, the court sentenced five individuals, including journalist Shafik Rehman and Mahmudur Rahman, to seven years of imprisonment.
