Golam Mustafizar Rahman Milan, Kaler Kantho Hili correspondent and adviser of the Shuvosangho Hakimpur Upazila unit, along with its President Tuhin Babu and General Secretary Khadiza Akhter Jui, were present at the event.
Mustakin Hossain, senior vice president of the unit, Abdur Rahman, vice president, Ishrat Jahan Asha, joint general secretary, Mahin Islam, treasurer, Riti Rani Sutradhar, social welfare affairs secretary, Umme Habiba Anjum, women affairs secretary and Nasim Babu, former general secretary of the platform, also were present at that time.
While talking to reporters, Lokman’s wife said, “We have no property other than our house. My husband was the sole breadwinner of the family. With his illness, our family’s income has nearly stopped, and we are now enduring an inhuman situation as he has been ill for over a year. My younger daughter's education is on the verge of stopping due to our severe poverty.”
According to an assessment by a doctor in Bogura town, Lokma’s wife said, “Around Tk 7 to Tk 8 lakh is needed for his cancer treatment, but we don’t know how we will manage the money. A few days ago, local journalists published a news article seeking help from people for the treatment of my husband. And today, Bashundhara Shuvosangho provided financial help in response to the call.”
“I was very happy when I heard last night that Bashundhara Shuvosangho would stand by us. I pray for everyone in the Bashundhara Group. May Allah bless them,” she added.
Talking to local reporters, Golam Mustafizar said that after learning from a news report that Lokman could not afford his cancer treatment due to poverty, he requested the Shuvosangho unit president to gather details about the family.
Today, members of the Shuvosangho Hakimpur Upazila branch handed over the cash to Lokman Hakim’s daughter for the treatment, he said.
He also urged the country's affluent families to come forward with a helping hand, so that Lokman can overcome his illness, Daily Sun reports.
