BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Monday urged the interim government to swiftly conduct relief and rescue operations in the flood-affected areas of the country's north.
In a statement, he also called upon BNP men and its affiliate organizations to extend their full support to the flood victims.
He said, “Large areas of Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Kurigram, and Gaibandha districts along the Teesta River have been inundated by flash floods due to intermittent heavy rains and the onrush of water from upstream.”
The water levels of rivers in the northern region, including the Teesta, are flowing above the danger mark, he observed.
Tarique expressed concern that many people have already become marooned due to this sudden flooding, UNB reports.
He lamented the fact that the flood-affected people are enduring severe hardship, with uneasiness and fear prevailing in the area, as roads and crops remain submerged.
