A Dhaka court on Sunday has sent Daily Amar Desh former acting editor Desh Mahmudur Rahman to prison in a case filed over the attempted abduction and murder of Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque passed the order.
Mahmudur Rahman appeared in court around 10:50am, surrendering through his lawyers with a request for bail.
However, after hearing arguments from both sides, the court denied the bail and sent him to jail.
Earlier on Saturday, Mahmudur Rahman’s lawyer said that the veteran journalist will surrender to the lower court on Sunday.
Mahmudur Rahman was sentenced 7 years imprisonment in his absentia in a case filed on the charge of an attempt for abduction and murder Sajib Wajed Joy.
