Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has decided to send letters to the United Nations (UN) and the Chief Adviser (CA) to Interim Government seeking neutral investigation into killings in the student-people movement.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir disclosed the party's decision in an urgent press conference at the BNP Chairperson's Gulshan Office in the capital on Thursday night, reports UNB.

"From the very beginning, we have been talking about the brutal massacre carried out by the government through its government forces before on the eve of the victory of this movement and the United Nations also expressed highest concern," said Mirza Fakhrul.

"We have decided to send a letter to the United Nations seeking neutral investigation into the incident. We also decided to send a letter to the Chief Adviser to the Interim Government," he added.

Noting that around 50 Bangladeshi workers were detained in UAE for expressing solidarity with the movement, the BNP secretary general said they will send letter to the government for taking measures for freeing those workers.

Those letters will be sent within one or two days, he added.

"We are extending thanks to the interim government for starting their works with sincerity. At first what it has started undoubtedly created hopes to the entire nation. Six justices of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court have already resigned. The President appointed a new one as acting Chief Justice," he said.

"We think that it's good news for democracy," he added.

Mirza Fakhrul expressed their belief that the condition created in the judiciary will be removed to a great extent.

Mirza Fakhrul said they are deeply concerned that misleading news reports over Bangladesh current situation are being presented in media at home and abroad.

In the news reports, different matters including attack on minority communities and deterioration of law and order situation are being presented in different ways which are not true by any means, he said.

Mirza Fakhrul said some problems are being created in some areas which are not as community based rather political incidents.

Efforts are underway to present news reports by linking BNP, he said, adding, "We are strongly condemning this attempt".

The BNP secretary general also said BNP is not involved with such incidents by any means and any normal political party or individual cannot be engaged with these incidents.

A conspiracy is being hatched to thwart the new independence of Bangladesh, he said.

BNP Standing Committee Members Mirza Abbas and Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Vice-Chairmen Barkat Ullah Bulu and Zainul Abedin Faruk, BNP Chairperson's Adviser Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder, Law Affairs Secretary Kaiser Kamal and Assistant Law Affairs Secretary Mezbah Uddin were present in the press conference.
