Small businesses at Baitul Mukarram mosque have demanded exemplary punishment of gold smuggling kingpin Enamul Haque Khan Dolan.
"Small businesses were also victim of Enamul Haque Khan. As chairman of security committee of Baitul Mukarram market, he abused the power against the small merchants," Alamgir Hossain, a representative of small merchant at Baitul Mukarram, told a press conference on Wednesday, reports Daily Sun.
The mico-marchant claimed that Enamul Haque Khan seized the products of road-side businesses different times as an autocratic ruler.
"If anyone protests against him, Dolan used slung to the businesses and tortured sometimes," he said.
Expatriate businesses Tofazzel Hossain, among others small businesses, was present on the occasion.
Gold smuggling ringleader, Enamul Haque Khan Dolan fled to Thailand on Monday evading the surveillance by law enforcement agencies in Dhaka.
As the news of gold smuggling by Dolan began to surface, the smuggler left Dhaka on a Bangkok-bound flight in the morning, sources said.
He is now staying in Thailand under the shelter of gold smugglers of the South East Asian country. Thai police are now hunting for Dolan while law enforcement agencies in Dhaka remain silent.
According to sources, Dolan leads a normal life despite the fact that he smuggles gold into neighboring countries using Bangladesh as a transit point.
He is leading the gold smuggling ring using his two business entities – Diamond & Divas, and Sharmin Jewellers.
Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) expelled Dolan from all posts at the trade body on Tuesday.
