Much-awaited national Quran recitation contest ‘Quraner Noor’ started in Mymensingh and Sylhet with huge enthusiasm on Thursday.
Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Musalli Committee has organised the mega Islamic reality show styled ‘Quraner Noor’ with technical support of the Bashundhara Group.
In Mymensingh, registration for the programme has begun at 9 am on Thursday at Zila Parishad auditorium for the first time. A total of 300 contestants will vie from greater Mymensingh in the contest. Of them, 30 students will be shortlisted and 10. Three of them will be selected for national level contest to be held in Dhaka.
Sources said 14 judges in seven booths are entrusted with evaluating the contestants.
Hafez Maulana Qari Abu Saleh Md Musa, coordinator of the contest, said many guests have come from Dhaka. Some locally renowned Alems have got involved in the contest.
Ruhul Amin, Hafez of Dapunia Jamia Taleb Ali Madrasa of Sadar Upazila, said “I am satisfied with of good arrangement of the contest. Three students from our madrasa are taking part in it.”
Eight students came to from Bakshiganj Tahfizul Quran Madrasa to join the competition.
Md Ashraful Islam, Hafez of Nurul Ulum Islamia Madrasa in Haluaghat, said four students from his madrasa have taken part in the contest.
Hafiz Mufti Mizanur Rahman, pesh imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Liyakat Hussain, Qari of Bangladesh Betar and Emdadul Islam, and Qari of Bangladesh Betar went there from Dhaka.
In Sylhet, contestants from four districts gathered at the Zia Parishad premises and auditorium.
Shah Monjurul Hakim Ayan, a volunteer involved in registration process, said 12 booths were established to decentralise the registration.
On February 1, Baitul Mukarram office of Islamic Foundation in the capital announced the contest through a press conference.
Musalli Committee Chief Adviser and Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir was present at the press conference.
As per condition of the contest, any Hafiz, aged below 15, can participate in it.
The recorded programme will be aired on News24 television channel from the first day of Ramadan and video features on the participants will be streamed on YouTube.
Top 45 contestants will participate in the second round of the competition. A panel comprising noted Islamic scholars will shortlist top finalists. The champion of the competition will be awarded Tk 1 million, reports Daily Sun.
