Customs detectives recovered 55 gold bars, weighing 6.547 kg, and detained eight people from Kolkata-bound Maitree Express train on Wednesday morning.
The detainees were identified as Md Sohel Rana (47), Billal Bepari (52), Tajbir Ahmed (38), Nazmul Hassan Nirav (30), Md Shahe Alam (40), Md Nadeem (41), Sultan Chowdhury (26) and Md Suman (36).
The gold bars were recovered at around 6:30 am searching their bodies, sources said.
The estimated market price of the gold is around Tk 4.5 crore.
