Expressing their firm stance to hold their 10 December rally at Naya Paltan, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir warned that the government will be responsible if any unwanted situation occurs during the rally.
Fakhrul made the warning while speaking at an emergency press conference held at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office on Thursday.
He said police have found rice and water bottles at the Naya Paltan office. Are these explosives? He questioned the journalists.
The senior leader of the party also alleged that police brought bombs at their central office through sacks of sand.
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, police detained BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Dhaka city north BNP convener Amanullah Aman, BNP’s publicity secretary and media cell member Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and Swecchasebak Dal general secretary Juel from Naya Paltan.
They were detained by law enforcement agencies during the clash between BNP activists and the police.
A man was killed and 18 others were injured during the clash between the police and BNP leaders and activists at the Naya Paltan area in the capital in the afternoon.
