Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Saturday inaugurated "Bangabandhu Corner" and "Bangabandhu Garden" at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Shilchar of Indian northwestern state Assam, reports BSS.
The Bangabandhu corner was setup at the NIT's Bharatratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Learning and Resource Centre while the Bangabandhu Garden was placed on the premises of the institute's library, according to a foreign ministry press release.
After inaugurating the Bangabandhu corner and the garden along with NIT director Professor Rajat Gupta, Bangladesh foreign minister joined a discussion and a cultural programme at the institution as the chief guest.
Momen expressed his gratitude to the Indian government for setting up the Bangabandhu corner and the Bangabandhu Garden in such a prominent and reputed institute like NIT that contains largest digital archive in South Asia.
Bangladesh foreign minister hoped that the students from India and other South Asian nations would be able to know more about Bangabandhu's life long struggle for emancipation of oppressed people as well as his principles and dreams through the Bangabandhu corner.
Besides, he said, students would be able to know about Bangladesh's struggle of freedom and how did India support Bangladesh during the War of Liberation in 1971.
He said Bangladesh and India have been knotted with deep bonds of similar culture, tradition and language.
The foreign minister has been invited as the chief guest at "1st Silchar-Sylhet Festival-2022" being held on December 2-3 at Silchar in Assam.
Momen is leading a Bangladesh delegation that comprised with Iqbalur Rahim, MP, Gazi Mohammad Shahnewaz, MP, Mohibur Rahman Manik, MP, former Foreign Secretary Shamsher Mubin Chowdhury, business leaders, political dignitaries and media representatives from Sylhet.
