Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a youth with 16 gold bars weighing 1.857 kg near the Kalaroa border in Satkhira on Thursday.
The detainee is Mohammad Ahiduzzaman, 35, son of Sheikh Abdul Hamid of Keragachi village under the upazila who was trying to smuggle out the gold.
BGB-33 Battalion issued a press statement in the evening confirming the arrest of one person and the recovery of gold bars.
Tipped off, BGB took a strategic position near Haridash Thakur hermitage, arresting the person and seizing the gold bars.
The estimated value of the recovered gold is Tk 15,970,200, it added.
The detainee has been handed over to the Kalaroa Police Station.
