The government on Wednesday approved separate proposals for procuring some 1.40 lakh metric tons of urea and MOP fertilizer to meet the growing need of the country, reports BSS.
The approvals came from the 35th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) in this year held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
Officials said following a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would procure some 50,000 metric tones of MOP fertilizer under state-level agreement from Canadian Commercial Corporation under the 8th lot with a cost of around Taka 414.13 crore.
Besides, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries would procure a total of 90,000 metric tones of urea fertilizer from different sources.
The BCIC would procure 30,000 metric tones of bulk granular urea fertilizer under the 6th lot from Fertiglobe Distribution Limited, UAE with around Taka 188.93 crore, another 30,000 metric tones of bagged granular urea fertilizer under the 9th lot from KAFCO, Bangladesh, with around Taka 185.13 crore and another 30,000 metric tones of bulk granular urea fertilizer under the 11th lot from Muntajat, Qatar with around Taka 188.93 crore.
