Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 20 gold bars worth Tk 2.18 crore from Shalkona border area in Sharsha Upazila of Jashore on Monday noon.
None was arrested in this matter as the smuggler fled the scene leaving the gold bars weighing 2.33 kg at a mustard field sensing the presence of the paramilitary forces.
Lt Col Sahed Minhaz Siddiki, Commanding Officer of the BGB-49 Battalion, confirmed the drive and recovery of the gold meant for smuggling.
A case was filed with Sharsha Police Station in this connection, he added.
