Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a ‘red alert’ in the city and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullalh Al Mamun declared Tk 10 lakhs for each to arrest the two militants who were snatched away from a Dhaka court premises on Sunday.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said this after the announcement in the afternoon.
The law enforcers will be able to arrest two death penalty-awarded militants soon, hoped the home minister.
He said police have already set up check posts at different strategic points of the city as well as the borders to stop the convicted militants.
Two militants, who were sentenced to death for killing publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan, fled from the Dhaka court premises on Sunday afternoon.
The absconding convicts are Moinul Hasan Shamim alias Samir alias Imran, and Abu Siddiq Sohel alias Sakib, members of the banned militant group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
The incident took place when they were coming out from the Anti-terrorism Special Tribunal in Dhaka at around 1:40 pm. The two convicted militants spray some liquids over the face of the police members and fled away when the police members got unprepared.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md Faruk Hossain confirmed the matter to the media.
On February 10 last year, a Dhaka tribunal sentenced eight members of the banned militant group to death for killing Faisal Arefin Dipan in October 2015.
