Bangladesh and Gulf Cooperation Council signed the MOU in Manama, Bahrain at the sideline of Manama Dialogue.
On behalf of Bangladesh, Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen and on behalf of Gulf Cooperation Council, its Secretary General Nayem FALAH M. Al-Hajraf signed the MoU on Friday.
Under this MoU both sides will hold regular consultation for political, economic, cultural, people to people contact, climate change, agriculture, food security and environment protection cooperation.
Before signing the MoU, there was a meeting between Foreign Minister and the Secretary General of GCC, said the Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
At the meeting Secretary (East) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh Ambassador Mashfee Binte Shams, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Bahrain Mr. Md Nazrul Islam and concerned officials of Bangladesh and GCC were also present.
AK Momen mentioned that MoU will work as a legal framework for cooperation between Bangladesh and GCC through joint action plan, joint working group and technical team, Joint business council and forums of GCC.
Foreign Minister emphasized that Bangladesh and the GCC have a lot of scope to work together for skill development, food security, energy security, climate change, crisis management, peace management, afforestation and IT cooperation, PTA/FTA. He also briefed the Secretary General about socio economic progress of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The GCC Secretary General thanked Foreign Minister for his invitation to visit Bangladesh. He expressed his willingness to visit Bangladesh at his convenient time.
