Dhaka-Chattogram can be traveled in just 4 hours by rail, thereby avoiding the traffic congestion on the road and the railway will become an important connectivity between the two big cities of the country.
The construction of the 72-km stretch of dual-gauge double rail line between the two cities will be completed next June. After this, the high-speed train will run on the Dhaka- Chattogram 321 km railway. Rail travel between the two cities will be more comfortable and time saving.
Those concerns said that the important project of Dhaka-Chattogram railway construction of 72 km dual gauge double railway line from Akhaura to Laksham and conversion of existing railway line to dual gauge is progressing rapidly.
When the project is completed next June, a new dimension will be added to the communication system known as the lifeline of the country. If the entire route comes under the double line, Dhaka-Chattogram can be traveled in just 4 hours.
Already 86 per cent of the project has been completed.
It should be noted that people want to travel safely by railways at low cost. It is a matter of luck to get a ticket to travel on Dhaka-Chattogram route now.
According to the Engineering Department of Eastern Railway, Chattogram-Dhaka route had a double line about 118 km of 321 km. After the present government came to power, 131 km railway line has been constructed through three projects. This project is being implemented to construct the remaining 72 km.
When the project is completed, it will be possible to travel from Dhaka to Chattogram in about 4 hours, sources said.
Shahidul Islam, Project Director Engineer of 72 km dual gauge double railway line from Akhaura to Laksham told Bangladesh Pratidin, “So far 86 per cent of the project has been completed. We are trying to complete the project by the end of June.”
“Once this project is completed, more non-stop trains will be able to run on the Dhaka-Chattogram route,” he said.
“There are 13 stations from Akhaura to Laksahm. Earlier, mail trains had to be kept at these stations and intercity trains had to cross. Now the train can run without any interruption. As a result we will save at least 45 minutes in this part,” he added.
