The Israeli army announced it has launched a military operation at the UNRWA headquarters in Gaza City, alleging the complex housed combat equipment and detention rooms linked to the Hamas movement, reports Al Jazeera.
The army said that its forces had previously operated in this area and killed a number of Hamas members and destroyed a tunnel passing under the complex.
The military said that it called on civilians via loudspeakers to leave and that it would open a corridor for the exit of uninvolved civilians from the area.
Al Jazeera have reported earlier that dozens of families are trapped in their homes under a barrage of violent bombardment in the vicinity of universities and industry, south of the Tal al-Hawa neighbourhood, west of Gaza City, after the sudden occupation advance at dawn.
Israeli aircraft bombed the top floors of the Florya Commercial Complex on the Communications Roundabout in ar-Remal neighbourhood, west of Gaza City, the Palestinian media outlets said, adding that the vicinity of the Bank of Palestine was also targeted.
