Explosions heard in Isfahan were a result of the activation of Iran's air defence systems, an Iranian official told on Friday.
He added that no missile attack was carried out against Iran, reports Reuters.
However, a senior US official told CNN that Israel has carried out a strike inside Iran. The attack came just hours after Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told CNN in an interview that if Israel takes any further military action against it would be “immediate and at a maximum level."
Israel’s military refused to comment on the reports that Israeli missiles hit a site in Iran. The Israeli military told the AFP that “we don’t have a comment at this time” when asked about reports of explosions and strikes in Iran and Syria.
The Prime Minister’s Office refuses to confirm to The Times of Israel that Israel is behind explosions in Isfahan. Iranian state media confirmed that air defence systems intercepted drones in Isfahan province and neutralising them effectively. Also, there were reports of air defense operations near Tabriz.
According to reports, Israel notified the Biden administration on Thursday of an imminent strike expected within the next 24 to 48 hours. However, Israeli officials reassured their US counterparts that the intended target would not include Iran’s nuclear facilities.
