Iran launched a missile and drone attack on what it called "terrorist" targets in Pakistan on Tuesday night, with Pakistan in turn striking militant targets inside Iran on the same day.
Meanwhile UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres expressed concern after Iran and Pakistan exchanged air strikes on each other's territory and urged both countries to exercise maximum restraint to avoid a further escalation of tensions.
China has offered to mediate between the two sides to this end, The Hindu reports.
