In a significant policy shift, Bangladesh Bank has removed all restrictions on the foreign travel of bank officials. From now on, bankers will no longer need prior approval from the central bank to travel abroad. The new directive, issued in a circular on Sunday, allows bank officers to travel for various professional reasons, including training, meetings, seminars, workshops, and study tours, as long as the travel aligns with their respective bank's travel policy.
This change is expected to provide greater flexibility and efficiency for the banking sector, enabling officials to attend international events and enhance their skills without unnecessary bureaucratic delays. By lifting these travel barriers, Bangladesh Bank aims to encourage professional development among bank officers, fostering improved knowledge exchange and exposure to global banking practices.
Previously, bankers were required to seek permission from the central bank for any foreign travel, a policy that was seen as restrictive and time-consuming. With the new directive in place, bank officers will have the freedom to pursue opportunities that contribute to their professional growth and the development of the sector as a whole.
