Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said the government has given around Tk 5,200 crore subsidy in distributing the daily essentials for the one crore low-income people holding family cards through the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) in the last year.
He revealed the information while inaugurating TCB selling for January among low-income people across the country in the capital’s Agargaon on Tuesday.
Senior Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghose and TCB Chairman Brigadier General Ariful Hasan were present at the inaugural ceremony organised by TCB regional office.
The Commerce Minister said one crore families all over the country would get lentils, oil and sugar once every month.
According to TCB, each family cardholder can buy a maximum of two-litre soybean oil at Tk 110 per litre, one-kilogram sugar at Tk 60 per kilogram and two kilograms of lentils at Tk 70 per kilogram.
