Train movement on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route remained suspended for one and a half hours on Saturday after a train engine caught fire near Dhala Station in Trishal upazila, Mymensingh district.
Akter Hossain, officer-in-charge of the Mymensingh railway police station, said the engine of the Dewanganj-bound Dewanganj Commuter train malfunctioned after it caught fire around 10:30 am, shortly after crossing Dhala Station, forcing the authorities to halt train movement.
Panic gripped the passengers as smoke billowed from the engine. However, the railway authorities managed to extinguish the fire by pouring water on it.
