A devastating fire broke out at the Shahi Masjid Slum in the city's Gabtoli area in the early hours of today (March 6), was brought under control.
The fire originated in the slum around 03:08 am and was brought under control at 04:36 am with one hour and 15 minutes intense efforts, Md Anwarul Islam, media officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSDC) told BSS.
The fire gutted many shops and garage, he added.
Upon receiving information, four fire fighting units rushed to the scene. With eight fire engines from Kalyanpur, Mohammadpur, Mirpur, and Tejgaon fire stations doused the flame.
No causalities were reported in this fire incident.
The cause of the fire and extent of damage could not be ascertained immediately.
