Former Awami League lawmaker Md Aftab Uddin Sarkar was arrested in the early hours of today (March 6) while hiding at a relative's house in the New Senpara area of Rangpur metropolis, reports BSS.
Aftab Uddin Sarkar, who previously served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nilphamari-1 (Domar-Dimla) constituency, was apprehended during a raid led by Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Md Majid Ali, according to Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ataur Rahman.
Following his arrest, Sarkar was taken to the Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station under tight security.
Sarkar faces three cases related to allegations of illegally using firearms, obstructing peaceful student-public protests, use of force, assault, and attempted murder. Two of these cases were filed in Nilphamari district, while the third was registered in Rangpur. The cases remain under investigation.
"The arrested former MP will be shown as an accused in these cases and will be produced before a Rangpur court today (Thursday)," OC Ataur Rahman confirmed.
