A cargo vessel from Pakistan, carrying 26,250 tonnes of rice, arrived at Chattogram Port on Wednesday afternoon.
The Pakistani-flagged vessel, MV SIBI, docked at the port's CCT-1 jetty. The rice was imported under a government-to-government agreement.
Confirming the matter, Gyan Priya Bidurshi Chakma, controller of the Office of the Controller of Movement and Storage, Directorate General of Food, said that a total of 50,000 tonnes of Atap rice is being imported from Pakistan under the G2G arrangement. In the first phase, 26,250 tonnes of rice was imported. The remaining consignment is scheduled to arrive on March 10.
He further stated that samples of the rice are being collected, and the unloading process will begin after necessary testing and inspection.
