Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Akram Khan has stated that senior players like Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah deserve respect.
His remarks came in response to widespread criticism of the senior players following their disappointing performance in the recently concluded Champions Trophy, with many suggesting it is time for them to retire.
“One thing is certain—we must respect our senior players. Only a player knows his own fitness and how he handles pressure. Considering everything, I believe the decision should be left to the player. If there are major concerns, the management and players can sit together and discuss the matter. However, discussing this issue publicly is not respectful,” Akram Khan, former national captain and current BCB director, told reporters on Wednesday.
“When such matters are discussed publicly, it creates pressure, and playing normal cricket under that pressure becomes difficult. Since everyone on our board has played cricket, I believe it would be better if these issues were discussed internally,” he added.
Akram also mentioned that if Tamim Iqbal wishes, he is always welcome to join the board as an administrator.
"(Regarding Tamim joining the board) It depends on how he wants to approach it. After my playing career, I had the desire to join the cricket board, so I did. Some may not have that interest. But certainly, if people with strong backgrounds join, it will be beneficial for the sport,” he added.
