A fire broke out in a moving bus of Green Line Transport, carrying 20 passengers, on the Dhaka-Barishal Highway. No one was injured in the incident.
The incident occurred around 10:30 am on Thursday near the South Bamrail bus stand, said Bipul Hossain, the station officer of the Gournadi Fire Service and Civil Defence.
According to him, the Green Line bus, carrying 23 passengers, left Dhaka for Barishal in the morning. Three passengers got off along the way. When the bus reached the South Bamrail area, a fire broke out. At that time, the bus was carrying 20 passengers, including the driver, assistant, and supervisor.
However, everyone stepped off quickly before the fire could spread. The cause of the fire has yet to be known.
There were no casualties reported, he said.
The officer further added, "Upon receiving the news, two units from the fire service worked for nearly an hour and managed to control the fire by 11:40 am. However, the bus’s engine, rear tyres, and all the seats were burnt."
Aminur Rahman, the officer-in-charge of Gournadi Highway Police Station, stated that a Green Line air-conditioned bus, carrying passengers from Dhaka to Barishal, caught fire due to a mechanical error. “Upon realising this, the driver stopped the bus on the side of the road and evacuated the passengers. Therefore, no passengers were harmed, although the bus was damaged,” he said.
“Traffic on the highway returned to normal after the fire was brought under control,” he added.
