Dhaka ranked 28th on the list of cities with the worst air quality, recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 90 at 10:37 am on Tuesday morning.
The day’s air quality was classified as "moderate," according to the AQI index.
Nepal’s Kathmandu, India’s Delhi, Vietnam’s Hanoi, and Pakistan’s Lahore occupied the top four spots, with AQI scores of 225, 182, 178, and 173, respectively, reports UNB.
When the AQI value for particle pollution is between 50 and 100, air quality is considered "moderate," and sensitive individuals should consider limiting prolonged outdoor exertion. An AQI between 101 and 150 is considered "unhealthy for sensitive groups," between 150 and 200 is "unhealthy," between 201 and 300 is classified as "very unhealthy," and a reading of 301+ is deemed "hazardous," posing serious health risks to residents.
The AQI is a measure of daily air quality, indicating how clean or polluted the air in a city is, and outlining potential health concerns for residents.
In Bangladesh, the AQI is based on five pollutants: particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2, and ozone.
