The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations began nationwide on Thursday, running from 10 am to 1 pm.
According to the schedule, the written exams will conclude on May 13, while practical exams will be held from May 15 to May 22.
On the first day, the SSC exams featured the Bengali First Paper, while the Madrasah Education Board held exams for Quran Majid & Tajweed, and the Technical Education Board conducted the Bengali Second Paper exam.
Professor CR Abrar, adviser to the Ministry of Education, observed the SSC exams at the Central Government School Centre in Motijheel.
According to the Ministry of Education, this year, a total of 14,90,142 candidates were set to appear for the exams under nine general education boards. Of these, 7,01,538 are male students and 7,88,604 are female students.
The number of exam centres is 2,291, and there are 18,084 institutions.
Under the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board, a total of 2,94,726 candidates were set to take the exams, including 1,50,893 male students and 1,43,833 female students. There are 725 exam centers and 9,063 institutions.
Under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board, there were 1,43,313 candidates, including 1,08,385 male students and 34,928 female students.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed restrictions on the access of unauthorised individuals within 200 yards of exam centres.
