Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested a total of 1786 persons in the last seven days as a part of DMP’s intensified security measures to ensure public safety, reports BSS.
“Security measures across the capital city beefed up to ensure the overall security and smooth movement of the residents,” a DMP press release said on Tuesday.
As part of the security initiatives, check posts and patrol activities have been strengthened in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.
As many as 667 patrol teams were deployed in two shifts from 12:01 am to 11:59 pm on Monday in 50 thana areas of the city, the release said.
Out of them 340 patrol teams were deputed at night and 327 teams were in patrol during the day, it said.
DMP operated 71 police check posts at various important and strategic locations while engaged 479 mobile patrol teams and 115 motorbike patrol teams to oversee the city’s overall law and order.
DMP’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit also deputed 14 teams along with 12 teams of Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), 10 teams of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), 20 teams of Armed Police Battalion (APBN) at various crime-prone zones of the city, the press release said.
In the last 24 hours, police arrested 155 people on charge of their involvement with various crimes reaching the total number of arrestees to 1786 in the last eight days since February 24.
The arrested persons include 11 robbers, 33 professional active robbers, five extortionists, nine thieves, 28 identified drug dealers and 17 wanted persons in different cases.
During the operation, the release said, seven knives, a Chinese axe, a chapati, two daggers, a steel plate, four rods, six sticks, a samurai, six mobile phones, two motorcycles and a tom-tom used in various crimes were seized.
Police also seized over 16 kg marijuana, 2,449 pieces of yaba and eight liters of alcohol during the raid.
Sixty three cases were filed with different police stations of the DMP in this connection.
