To enhance security and manage conflicts among passengers, the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) has deployed police officers inside metro rails. Each train will have two officers assigned for patrolling duties.
The office of the Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the metro rail operator, confirmed this information on Tuesday afternoon.
According to a reliable source within the department, MRT police officers have been granted permission to enter metro train coaches and will conduct regular patrols to ensure passenger safety.
A total of two MRT police officers will be stationed in each six-coach train, meaning that 20 officers will be deployed across the 10 operating trains.
The officers will work in two shifts: from morning to noon and from noon to night. Meanwhile, MRT police personnel stationed at metro stations will continue their duties.
The MRT police play a crucial role in maintaining order by preventing theft, resolving conflicts, assisting lost children and elderly passengers, and recovering lost belongings.
The MRT Police force was officially launched in November 2023 to ensure the security of the metro rail system and its stations.
