Authorities have increased the speed limit on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway from 60 kilometres per hour to 80 kilometres per hour, starting from February 27 night.
The new speed limit of 80km/h is now displayed on electronic sign boards along the route although some manual signs still reflect the older limit and are yet to be updated.
Authorities have also introduced stricter enforcement measures to regulate traffic speed. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will file video-based cases against vehicles exceeding the speed limit, with fines starting at BDT 2,500 and doubling for repeat offences.
Vehicles that violate the limit three times will face a ban from using the expressway.
