Ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia and Aricha-Kazirhat routes were suspended for two hours on Wednesday due to fog.
During this time, five ferries were stranded in the middle of Padma River. Over 300 vehicles were waiting at the four ferry terminals to cross the river.
Nasir Chowdhury, deputy General manager of BIWTC’s Aricha Region, reported that at 6 am today, the dense fog engulfed the entire waterway. To avoid any accidents, ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route were halted. During this period, the ferry named 'Gauri' was stranded in the middle of the river with passengers and vehicles aboard. Additionally, 12 other ferries were held at both terminals.
Meanwhile, ferry operations on the Aricha-Kazirhat route were also suspended from 6:30 am due to the same reason. Ferries named 'Hamidur Rahman', 'Shah Ali', and 'Chitra' became stranded en route from Kazirhat to Aricha, while the 'Dhanshiri' ferry was also stuck while traveling the opposite route.
With ferry services temporarily suspended, over 300 vehicles had to wait at the four terminals. Ferry operations resumed at 8 am on the Paturia-Daulatdia route and at 8:30 am on the Aricha-Kazirhat route after the fog cleared. Vehicles at the terminals were able to resume their crossings.
