Police have arrested Abdul Halim, 48, a former councilor of Chauddagram Municipality, in connection with the petrol bomb attack on a bus in Chauddagram of Comilla.
Chauddagram Police Station OC Mohammad Hilal Uddin Ahmed confirmed the arrest on Friday.
Abdul Halim was a former councilor of ward number 4 of Chauddagram Municipality. He is the son of Abul Kashem of Chandishkara Munshi Bari.
According to Police sources, on the early hours of February 3, 2015, a petrol bomb was thrown at a night coach carrying passengers in the Jagmohanpur area of Chauddagram on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, killing eight people. In this incident, on September 11, Md. Abul Khair filed a case in the Comilla court, naming 130 people including former Railway Minister Mujibul Haque, former IGP AKM Shahidul Haque, former RAB DG Benazir Ahmed, former Comilla Superintendent of Police Tutul Chakraborty and 60 unidentified people as accused. Abdul Halim was named as accused number 116 in the case.
OC Hilal Uddin Ahmed said that Abdul Halim had been in hiding since the case. He was arrested in a raid in the Miabazar area of the upazila on Thursday night based on secret information. He will be sent to Comilla jail through the court.
