The students of Government Titumir College have staged a roadblock on Thursday afternoon demanding the transformation of their institution into an independent university.
Earlier on Wednesday evening, they began a hunger strike, and presented seven demands.
The seven-point demands of the protesting students under the platform "Titumir Unity" are:
Official recognition of Titumir University and publication of its academic calendar.
Formation of the Titumir University administration and commencement of admissions for the 2024-25 session.
Ensuring 100% residential facilities for students or, alternatively, covering 100% of residential expenses immediately.
Introduction of at least two internationally recognized subjects, such as Law and Journalism, from the 2024-25 academic year.
Recruitment of qualified PhD-holding faculty to enhance the quality of education.
Limiting student intake to maintain educational standards.
Allocation of land and financial resources to establish an international-standard research lab.
