Medical Assistant Training School (MATS) students staged a human chain demanding four key objectives, including the elimination of all disparities and ensuring healthcare services for the public.
They gathered in the Karwan Bazar area of the capital today (Wednesday) under the banner of the General MATS Students Unity Council, and presented their four key demands.
The demands put forward by the students are as follows: The government must ensure opportunities for higher education in accordance with Bangladesh's First Five-Year Plan (1973-1978), aiming for a discrimination-free Bangladesh.
They also call for the immediate recruitment of Deputy Assistant Community Medical Officers for vacant positions and the creation of new posts for MATS-trained DMF diploma holders in community clinics, as well as in government and private hospitals.
Additionally, the students demand the continuation of the four-year academic course, reinstating the one-year internship with a stipend, and the revision of the inconsistent course curriculum.
Finally, they seek the cancellation of the proposed Allied Health Professional Education Board and the establishment of a new board named the "Medical Education Board of Bangladesh."
