The importance of research in academic growth and national development was at the forefront of discussions at the 2nd Undergraduate Research Symposium (URS) 2024, organized by the School of Business and Economics (SoBE) at United International University (UIU). The award ceremony, held on Monday, at UIU's campus in Dhaka, saw the participation of prominent academic and industry figures, including Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, who graced the event as the Chief Guest.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan emphasized the critical role of research in a country’s progress. He remarked, "Research is vital for the progress of a country. Every student should engage in research during their university years. This kind of involvement not only enhances their academic journey but also prepares them for higher studies abroad, instilling a strong sense of motivation. This symposium will play an instrumental role in shaping future researchers and fostering a deeper understanding of various academic fields." His words resonated deeply with the audience, underscoring the significance of research in both personal and national advancement.
The symposium attracted hundreds of students from both public and private universities, offering them a platform to present their research across three domains. The top 10 teams from each domain were selected to showcase their work, with champions in each domain awarded BDT 1,00,000, first runner-ups receiving BDT 60,000, and second runner-ups awarded BDT 40,000. This competition not only highlighted the students' research but also provided valuable recognition and opportunities for their academic futures.
The symposium was presided over by Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia, Vice Chancellor of UIU, and attended by notable guests such as Professor Emeritus Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, Executive Director of UIU Institute for Advanced Research (IAR), and Chairman of Power Grid Bangladesh PLC, who served as the Special Guest.
