Disgruntled workers in Ashulia, near Savar, staged a road blockade on Monday, demanding payment of overdue salaries and other benefits. The demonstration caused severe traffic congestion along a six-kilometer stretch of the Ashulia-DEPZ-Abdullahpur road between Jamgora and Zirabo.
The protest began at 11 a.m. in front of a factory in the Norosinghopur area, where laid-off workers organized a sit-in to coerce the factory authority for their demands. According to Mohammad Mominul Islam Bhuiyan, superintendent of Ashulia Industrial Police-1, the factory had recently terminated the workers, prompting them to demand immediate settlement of unpaid wages and other entitlements.
“We are actively mediating to resolve the issue and ensure a fair solution for both parties,” Bhuiyan stated, emphasizing efforts to address the workers’ grievances while maintaining order.
