Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar has emphasized the need to honor the sacrifices made by those who brought an end to the "Black Age" in Bangladesh, reports BSS.
Speaking at a workers' conference on Friday at Bhabanipur Muktijoddha College ground in Gazipur Sadar Upazila, Parwar addressed the growing divisions among the revolution’s leaders, pointing to disagreements over reforms and election strategies. He said, “Our aim is to build a new Bangladesh through a free, fair, and impartial election. However, differences have emerged within our ranks. Some advocate for delaying reforms, while others call for immediate action. Some demand elections before reforms, while others insist reforms should precede elections. We will proceed with the necessary reforms to ensure credible elections, even as some cite constitutional provisions to argue that elections should happen without reforms.”
Golam Parwar also raised questions about the legal and constitutional grounds of recent leadership transitions, stating, “Under what law was Yunus allowed to assume leadership? What constitutional framework established the advisory council, and by what authority did Hasina take her oath of office?”
He continued, “The constitution should reflect the people’s aspirations. For instance, the caretaker government system was introduced in the 1990s in response to public demand, even though it wasn’t part of the original constitution. Similarly, the current interim government and its advisors are both unconstitutional and illegal.”
Parwar also spoke about the recent national unrest, saying, “While efforts to rebuild the nation continue, conspiracies are being devised. Revolutions, judicial coups, and civil unrest are destabilizing the country. Certain forces aim to create an environment where our Hindu brothers cannot live in peace unless the Awami League is in power. However, the interim government has successfully thwarted India’s plot.”
He also discussed local issues in Gazipur, noting that mill owners were facing extortion and threats, which disrupted their businesses. Parwar called on the local authorities, including the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and Metropolitan Police Commissioner, to take immediate action against those causing instability.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader further accused the Awami League of retreating from public visibility, saying, “The murderous Awami League fascists, along with their 300 MPs and ministers, are nowhere to be found. If law enforcement fails to act against them, the people will believe you are complicit in supporting these criminals.”
The conference was chaired by Jamaat’s District Ameer Jahangir Alam, with Professor Mia Golam Parwar serving as the chief guest. Other speakers included Professor Muhammad Izzat Ullah, Central Executive Council member; Md Samiul Haque Farooqui, central organizing secretary; and Mohammad Khalilur Rahman Madani, Central Working Committee member.
