The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is planning several new initiatives, including the formation of a quick response team, to provide faster and better services to the city’s 20 million residents.
"DMP has planned to form a quick response team to ensure that better police services are provided as soon as possible," said DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali in an interview with BSS.
The quick response team will be centrally coordinated by the joint commissioner (operations) at DMP Headquarters, while divisional deputy commissioners will oversee the teams in their respective areas. At the thana level, officers-in-charge (OCs) of the 50 police stations under the DMP will manage the team's activities.
Explaining the purpose of the initiative, the commissioner said, "We want to curtail the response time of the general diaries (GDs) or any complaints filed with the police stations. We are planning to address the complaints within one hour after they are registered."
As part of the efforts to improve services, complaint boxes will be set up inside and outside the DMP Headquarters and all city police stations.
The commissioner emphasized that the DMP is committed to delivering the best police services based on feedback from the public. "So, we are holding view exchanges with a cross-section of the people to know what services they want from the police," he said.
Additionally, the DMP is working to involve residents in police activities, recognizing the importance of public cooperation. Efforts are also underway to raise awareness and build resistance against crimes, especially extortion.
"We believe that everyone's small efforts will make a big contribution to maintaining law and order in the metropolis," the commissioner stated.
