Land, Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser A F Hassan Ariff on Sunday said 'Pitha' (pastoral cake) is not merely a foodstuff rather, a symbol of heritage, joy and celebration, reports BSS.
"For us, 'Pitha' or 'cake' is not just a food rather an amalgamation of culinary art, tradition, joy and a symbol of celebration," he said while inaugurating a three-day long 'Pitha Festival' organized by the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) at Tourism Cafeteria at secretariat as the chief guest.
Food-loving Bengalese have been preparing many delicious dishes side by side their main meals since ancient times, he said, adding that among these, 'Pitha' has the utmost social importance.
'Pitha' is considered not only as a food but also as a testament to folk tradition and the artistic craftsmanship of womenfolk, he said.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Nasreen Jahan, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation Chairman Saima Shahin Sultana and officials of the ministry and BPC were present on the occasion.
During 'Pitha Festival', individual can enjoy a variety of 'Pithas' or 'cakes' at low price.
