Three young men were killed in a collision between a bus and a private car in Kaliakair, Gazipur. One other person was injured and has been transferred to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment.
The deceased were Nasir Uddin (23), son of Sabur Mia from Andi village in Sakhipur Upazila, Tangail; Moslim Uddin (30), son of Syed Ali from Chakand Birer Bari area in Madhupur Upazila, Tangail; and Jewel Mia (32), son of Sekendar Ali from Andi village in Sakhipur Upazila, Tangail.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Shahidul Islam of Nawzor Highway police station stated that the victims were returning home after dropping off a friend at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Their private car reached the Boardghar Shila Brishti Filling Station area in Kaliakair, Gazipur, on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway.
While attempting a U-turn to enter the Shila Brishti pump, their car collided head-on with a bus of Al Baraka Paribahan traveling towards Dhaka.
Moslim Uddin died on the spot from the impact.
Locals quickly rescued the injured and took them to the local health complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Nasir Uddin dead. Jewel Mia, the other injured person, was transferred to Kumudini Hospital in Mirzapur, where the attending physician also declared him dead.
The driver of the private car, Azizul Rahman, was injured in the accident.
SI Shahidul Islam added that the bodies of the deceased have been recovered and, following necessary formalities, handed over to their families.
Both the private car and the bus involved in the accident have been seized. The bus driver and his assistant fled the scene.
Legal action will be taken in connection with the incident.
