Ten fishermen, who had been kidnapped by robbers, were rescued by Forest Department officers following a gunfight in the Takkakhali area along the Chunkuri River in the Sundarbans.
Three boats, a solar panel and one round of bullet were recovered.
The rescued fishermen are Abdul Alim(62), Nur Islam(45), Rabiul Islam(28), Hafizur Rahman(45), Raju Fakir(47), Shafiqul Islam(45), Rafiqul Islam(45), Mafizur(38), and Nazrul Islam(57).
Solaiman, the station officer of Kadamtala Forest Station in the Satkhira range, said they launched a river operation to rescue the fishermen on Sunday afternoon after receiving a tip-off. When the robbers noticed their presence, they opened fire, prompting them to return fire with five rounds.
Eventually, the robbers fled, leaving the fishermen behind. The rescued individuals were then taken to the Burigoalini Forest Department station, he added.
The fishermen alleged the robbers led by one Manju kidnapped them from several spots of the forest for ransom.
