Despite a strong performance and a promising chance to secure victory against India in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, Bangladesh had to settle for a draw. However, the result still played a role in improving Bangladesh’s FIFA ranking. In the latest rankings released by FIFA, the Red and Green Brigade has climbed two spots.
Before the match on March 25, Bangladesh was ranked 185th. Now, with 904.16 points, the team has moved up to the 183rd position.
In the match held in Shillong, India, Bangladesh delivered an impressive display of football. However, due to the forwards’ inability to convert chances, the game ended in a goalless draw.
Much of the pre-match hype revolved around Hamza Choudhury. The Premier League-experienced footballer made his debut for the national team in this game, adding to the excitement.
While the draw contributed to Bangladesh’s ranking improvement, India’s ranking took a hit. The team dropped one place to 127th, with a total of 1132.03 points.
At the top of the rankings, Argentina remains in first place after securing two victories in last month’s World Cup qualifiers. Spain have climbed to second place, while France dropped to third. England and Brazil hold the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
